One of the things that folks often wonder about as they're contemplating filing bankruptcy is whether they will feel like they failed, whether they'll feel shame. And I'm here to tell you that most folks, almost everybody feels exactly the opposite.

I've been doing this for over 20 years, and after filing bankruptcy, most folks feel like a great weight has been lifted from their shoulders and they do actually have what we call a fresh start, a chance to move on and make a new start with their financial lives. And they all wish that they hadn't put it off, and I would strongly encourage you to take that message and to realize that really, if your debts are overwhelming, filing bankruptcy is actually the responsible thing to do so that you can get yourselves back on track and get your house in order.

So if the idea of that shame or fear or self-judgment is preventing you from contemplating filing bankruptcy, I just want you to dispel that myth and get on with making the plans that you need to make.
